Weather Song Tournament, Second Round: Rain & Seasons!

The Weather Channel's Weather Song TournamentResults are in from yesterday’s voting on the second round, Sun and Elements regions. More than half of my picks advanced, allowing me to feel both au courant and avant garde — a music nerd sweet spot!

Today, we vote in the second Round of the Rain & Seasons regions. Let’s get to it!

Second Round: Rain Region

Worthy opponents, both, but for me, no contest!

MMN’s pick: Gene Kelly: “Singin’ in the Rain”

This is a tough choice: dark versus whimsical — I want both! I’ve got a soft spot for New Wave, though.

MMN’s pick: The Eurythmics: “Here Comes The Rain Again”

Many of these are turning out to be generation gap contests! I’m sticking with the 80s here, too.

MMN’s pick: Prince: “Purple Rain”

Whoa, CCR in a death match with… themselves! Lessee… some questions just make more sense than others.

MMN’s pick: Creedence Clearwater Revival: “Who’ll Stop the Rain”

Second Round: Seasons Region

When it’s a case of very classic versus sorta classic, the choice is clear!

MMN’s pick: Bing Crosby: “White Christmas”

Some people think I’m crazy when I tell them that I like winter. Well, here’s exhibit A. I rest my case.

MMN’s pick: Burl Ives: “Winter Wonderland”

Ooh, this is a case where I wish I could vote for both… but you just can’t beat Ella & Louis! (If they end up matched against Gene Kelly, I think my head may asplode!)

MMN’s pick: Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong: “Summertime”

Gotta go with the (slightly) more hard-hitting one here!

MMN’s pick: The Lovin’ Spoonful: “Summer in the City”

Remember to vote before 5am EDT tomorrow! Then we have a little break until Tuesday morning, when voting begins on the Sweet Sixteen!

What are your picks, music nerds?
