The 30 Days Project: Day 3

Last night, I told McDoc that I was taking requests for the 30 Days Project, if anyone would like to hear a certain type of piece… fast, slow, happy, sad, dance forms, etc. (I hope no one asks for a fugue!) He asked if anyone writes Polonaises anymore. I said, not that I know of! I’m not sure what a modern Polonaise would sound like. Then McDoc asked, “What would you get if you combined a the rhythm of a Polonaise with jazz harmonies?”

“Ragtime!” I said.

Except that rags are usually in 2/4 or 4/4, while Polonaises are usually in 3/4.

Anyhow, if you combined that oom-pah bass feel with some jazzy harmonies and threw in a faint Latin feel, you might come up with something like this…

The 30 Days Project: Day 3 — 6 Comments

  1. Amazing what you can do when you just decide to DO IT. I loved that piece for today–very cool. I’d like to sit in a cool club and hear more of that while I sip my glass of wine!

    Thanks Linda!

  2. Do the fugue, Linda! You know you want to….either that or a nice twelve-tone piece. Heh.

Actually, if you could do something with a nice Irish or Celtic feel, that would be nice.

    Lovely work today, as always.

  3. Glad to see you are working away on your project. We are mulling your question. Perhaps combine Gershwin, Chopin and Gregorian Chant. Well, I said we were working on it.

  4. To me, the jazz stood out the most on this piece. And yet, it’s unique. I hope you get the opportunity to expand on this one.

Oh and if you’re taking requests, I like bouncy techno-like dance stuff. I don’t care if I’m supposedly too old to enjoy it or not. 🙂

  5. My ancestry is heavily Polish (come visit Hamtramck sometime :)) and I have a few theories on why nobody writes polonaises any more.

#1 Same reason nobody writes waltzes any more; they’re too formulaic and some (most?) modern composers don’t want to be bound by traditional forms.

#2 Polish music since Chopin has been depressing. It probably has to do with Poland’s fairly depressing history during the last century. Szymanowski’s stuff makes you want to go hang yourself out in the barn.

  6. Hi there!

First of all, thanks for using Sonific Songspots, much appreciated! A short explanation about the approval process you mention in your post; we are currently approving all new tracks manually which unfortunately takes some time. Due to the fact that we respect copyright laws we have to actually check that all tracks are what they are supposed to be. if you are in a hurry you can send me a mail to kimmo at sonific.com, and I’ll do what I can to speed the process up on specific tracks.
    cheers Kimmo / Sonific
