NaBloPoMo: The Power of NOW

Two years ago, I participated in National Blog Posting Month, or NaBloPoMo for short. It’s very simple — all you have to do is post something every day for a month. But the results can be profound.

It’s a great thing to get in the practice of writing every single day, whether it’s text or music. Would that I could do it every day, every month, over the long haul. Life doesn’t tend to cooperate with that, sadly.

I’ve been feeling frazzled, scattered and burnt out lately. I do tend to get my fingers in a lot of different pies (mmm, pie!), which doesn’t help. Juggling lots of little things can leave one with a vague sense of having been super busy but not really having accomplished anything. I’ve been craving the deeper satisfaction of working hard on one big project.

But feeling burnt out as I have, I want to step back and take stock before I commit myself to One Big Thing. I had already been contemplating taking this summer to do that, and I think NaBloPoMo might be helpful in that regard. Writing is almost always much better than thinking; thoughts have a way of swirling around in your head rather unhelpfully, but when you get your thoughts down, whether in ink or pixels, the swirling usually subsides, and it becomes possible to make some sense of things.

The good folks at NaBloPoMo come up with an optional blogging theme for each month, and the theme for June is NOW. When I saw that, I was immediately reminded of the book, “The Power of Now.” I’ve had it recommended to me in the past. The truth is, I’ve never read it, but the title alone is enough to make me want to tackle my to-do list. I mean, it just sort of makes sense, because after all, now is all there is. Or something like that! 😉

Here’s a song that energizes me:

What energizes you, music nerds? 🙂

NaBloPoMo: The Power of NOW — 3 Comments

  1. Hey, Linda! Thanks for the post! It’s great to find out about NaBloPoMo. I’m going to give it a try.

Anyway, I thought the Power of Now was good in some ways. The basic premise is interesting.

Good luck with your summer plans!

  2. Hi, Linda.
I did something similar with NaNoWriMo last year. That’s National Novel Writing Month. Although I didn’t come anywhere near the 50,000 word goal, that experience did help me to become an avid and frequent blogger. I’m not sure that I’ve posted every day in any month but so far this year I’ve averaged close to a post a day.
