Musical Texture: interweaving of musical lines

4 Types of Musical Texture:

  • Monophony: single melodic line, unaccompanied
  • Heterophony: multiple variations of a melody sounding simultaneously
  • Homophony: melody and accompaniment
    – including Homorhythm: same rhythm in all voices
  • Polyphony: multiple melodic lines sounding simultaneously
    – including imitation: round, canon, fugue
